LE POLITICHE DI BILANCIO E L’ADOZIONE DEGLI IFRS: PROFILI DI STUDIO E RASSEGNA DELLE PRIME EVIDENZE EMPIRICHE

Abstract

The IFRS adoption in Europe was accompanied by a great expectation regarding the improvement of the financial statement quality and several studies have investigated how the move towards IFRS, both voluntarily and mandatory, has modified earnings management behavior. In this paper, after a summary of earnings management main features, a review of those researches is performed and the results are not clear. The paper suggests some methodological issues, still not covered in the current
debate, which are relevant in order to compare earnings management intensity before and after the introduction of a new set of accounting rules.
