La materiality nel contesto IAS/IFRS: finalmente un punto fermo?
Abstract
The issue
of materiality has been the subject of extensive debate over the past decade in
the context of IAS / IFRS. The topic is strictly connected to the quality of
the information in the financial statements, in which the materiality aspects
are relevant. The projects and materiality documents were therefore multiple
and articulated.
In detail, the IASB published on September 14, 2017 the operational guide "IFRS Practice Statement 2: Making materiality judgments", focused on a four-phase assessment of material information: identify, evaluate, organize, review. The aim was to provide clarifications that would allow identifying material information and examples useful to help both the financial statements editor and the auditor to correctly apply the concept of materiality in different scenarios. On 31 October 2018, the IASB also issued the document "Material definition: amendments to IAS 1 and IAS 8", with the aim of refining and strengthening the definition of materiality contained in IAS 1 and IAS 8 and aligning the definition of materiality within the IAS / IFRS and Conceptual Framework.
This document analyzes the definitions of materiality contained in IAS 1 and in the Conceptual Framework and the individual key concepts of the definition itself, also in light of the evolution of the preparatory works; the contents of the Practice Statement are then examined
